Pepper Construction is a national general contracting and construction management firm that primarily serves the private sector. The Facilities Technician is responsible for the daytoday operation, maintenance, and repair of Pepper Construction facilities. This is a handson position, requires experience in at least one skilled trade, and the ability to support multiple facilities with varying operational needs. The Facilities Technician ensures Pepper's buildings, equipment, and grounds are safe, functional, and wellmaintained to support employees, project teams, and business operations. This position will be based out of our Barrington, IL office with travel to local offices.



Key Responsibilities


Facilities Maintenance & Repairs



  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, ceilings, flooring, and general carpentry.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve facilitiesrelated issues in a timely and costeffective manner.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and code compliance issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules.


Safety & Compliance



  • Ensure facilities comply with applicable safety regulations, building codes, and company standards.
  • Support safety initiatives and respond to emergency maintenance situations (e.g., power outages, water leaks).
  • Maintain clear, safe workspaces and report hazards or unsafe conditions promptly.


Work Order & Vendor Coordination



  • Receive, prioritize, and complete work orders from internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and service providers as needed, including escorting vendors and verifying work completion.
  • Assist with small renovation projects, office moves, and space reconfigurations.


Grounds & General Operations



  • Perform basic grounds maintenance (as applicable), such as snow removal coordination, minor landscaping support, and exterior inspections.
  • Assist with furniture assembly, office setup, and equipment moves.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas in an organized and safe condition.


Documentation & Communication



  • Document completed work, parts used and followup needs in the work order or maintenance system.
  • Communicate clearly with internal teams regarding status, timelines, and resolution of requests.
  • Recommend improvements to facilities, processes, or preventative maintenance practices.


Required Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of facilities maintenance experience (commercial or industrial)


  • Handson experience in at least one skilled trade, such as: HVAC, plumbing, electrical
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between Pepper facilities as needed (Chicago area)
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Capability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours when required


Preferred Qualifications



  • Trade certification(s) or technical training (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or similar).
  • Familiarity with CMMS or work order systems.
  • Forklift, lift, or other equipment certifications.
  • OSHA safety training or similar credentials.

The hourly midpoint for this role is $41/hour. We consider many factors when determining the actual hiring salary. These factors may include location, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, internal equity, and market demands.
