Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an EMR LPN to support our office in Norfolk remotely.

Position Summary

The LPN - Patient Portal Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating high volumes of incoming patient portal messages and refill requests. This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, remote environment. The LPN will respond to patients within scope of practice and collaborate closely with providers and clinical teams to ensure timely, accurate follow-up and resolution of patient concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate incoming patient portal messages in a timely and efficient manner
  • Respond independently to patient inquiries within LPN scope of practice and established protocols
  • Collaborate with providers and clinical teams to address patient concerns requiring escalation or clinical decision-making
  • Ensure timely follow-up and full resolution of patient portal communications
  • Process prescription refill requests, including routing controlled/2FA medications to the appropriate provider
  • Maintain organized workflow to manage high message volumes and prioritize urgent concerns appropriately
  • Document all patient interactions, provider communications, and actions taken accurately and thoroughly

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Minimum of two years-experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting preferred but not required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.

Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
