Responsibilities:

Job Summary
Develop relationships with key HonorHealth Network clinics to identify and meet customer need. Oversee the daily operations of the specialty pharmacy and maintain accountability for workflow management, clinical management of patients, continuous quality improvement, adherence to policies and procedures, compliance with internal and external regulatory and accrediting bodies, pharmacy sales, expense control and inventory management through accurate filling of prescriptions, and ensuring the highest level of customer service (including but not limited to patients, caregivers, and providers) and developing and protecting department assets.
Essential Functions
  • Operations:
    Manages the daily operations of the specialty pharmacy
    Maintains accurate filling of prescriptions, and provide courteous and efficient service to patient, prescribers, and others involved in the patient's care.
    Supervises and maintains compliance with standards set forth by the accrediting bodies.
    Reports errors immediately and adheres to HonorHealth policies and procedures relating to prescription incidents and continuous quality improvement
    Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations and HonorHealth policies governing all drugs and products;
    Maintains required records, documentation, and reports compliant with federal, state, and accrediting bodies
    Recommends and implements asset protection controls and procedures to identify and minimize profit loss
    Improves and maintains pharmacy department housekeeping, maintenance, and appearance for the safety, health, and well-being of customers and employees, and ensures adherence to applicable government regulations and laws
    Controls the pharmacy's safe and "bank", including electronic register readings, cash withdrawals, cash accounts, daily cash reports, cash over and short records, and other reports related to cash management
    Assures proper operation and maintenance of specialty pharmacy department systems and equipment
    Assures proper administration and implementation of third party pharmacy systems and procedures to lessen payment rejections
    Resolves third party rejection problems promptly, and resubmits rejected claims for payment on a timely basis
    Manages and controls specialty pharmacy department inventory by adhering to HonorHealth drug purchase procedures, recommends and orders merchandise from proper internal and external sources
    Performs other duties as assigned.

  • People and Performance Management
    Supervises specialty pharmacy department staff members to assure performance of required functions and adheres to HonorHealth policy and procedures. Confirms specialty pharmacy department employees are trained on all required functions regarding payer and pharmaceutical contractual requirements (adverse event reporting, data and inventory reporting, clinical management). Reaffirms with all specialty pharmacy department personnel, on a regular basis, their obligations regarding the dispensing of prescriptions only in good faith.

    Audits own performance and recommends own objectives and standards of performance
    Maintains an awareness of developments in the pharmacy, health care, and management fields that relate to job responsibilities, and integrates them into own practices
  • Communication
    Maintains and develops good working relationships with physicians and other health professionals. Works collaboratively, along with the specialty pharmacy staff.
    Acts as a consultant to healthcare professionals and patients regarding utilization of pharmaceutical therapies
    Promptly respond to inquiries with evidence-based and cost-effective therapy recommendations
    Serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and meets requirements of the College(s) of Pharmacy. Actively participates in the education and training of new pharmacy employees and pharmacy interns.
Education
  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a minimum of Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent experience - Required
Experience
  • 2 years Community Pharmacy - Required
  • 2 years Specialty Pharmacy - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Pharmacist (RPh) Upon Hire - Required
  • Registered Pharmacist (RPh) Willing to obtain and maintain licensure in other states than Arizona - Required
