Traveling Data Center Project Manager

Job Summary
The Travel Data Center Project Manager oversees the full lifecycle of large-scale hyperscale data center and network infrastructure projects across multiple locations. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects while managing project staff, coordinating procurement and installation activities, tracking budgets, and maintaining documentation. The Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between internal teams, subcontractors, and customer representatives to ensure projects meet safety, quality, schedule, and financial objectives. The role requires frequent travel to project sites and focuses on delivering high-quality outcomes, maintaining strong customer relationships, and ensuring projects align with organizational standards and operational goals.

Job Responsibilities



  • Manage the full project lifecycle, including presales support, planning, execution, delivery, closeout, and post-installation activities across multiple project sites.
  • Travel to active data center construction sites to oversee project progress, installation quality, and team coordination.
  • Oversee multi-million-dollar hyperscale data center construction projects, including labor forecasting, material procurement, cost control, and invoicing.
  • Define project scope, develop detailed work plans, and manage tasks through final completion and customer turnover.
  • Lead and manage project teams, including recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating project staff.
  • Monitor project milestones, timelines, risks, and budgets, implementing proactive and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage workload distribution and oversee installation progress to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Maintain project profitability by monitoring financial performance and aligning execution with organizational goals.
  • Review job cost postings for accuracy and completeness, including invoicing, collections, and financial reporting.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, and customer teams to ensure timely and high-quality work.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, project data, and system records throughout all phases of the project.
  • Ensure contract documents, proposals, and financial details remain aligned to support proper billing schedules.
  • Conduct weekly reviews of project metrics, budget trackers, invoicing status, pending awards, accounts receivable, and system data.
  • Manage quality assurance and safety compliance throughout all project phases.
  • Participate in or facilitate bid processes and support project estimation activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer representatives and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services within existing and new client engagements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project and organizational objectives.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience on large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-million-dollar hyperscale data center or structured cabling projects.
  • Proven ability to define project scope, develop detailed project plans, and successfully manage projects through completion.
  • Experience leading large project teams, including hiring and managing staff across multiple workstreams.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Experience utilizing project management software for forecasting, communication, procurement tracking, and milestone management.
  • Knowledge of voice, data, fiber, and wireless installation project delivery.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to project sites for extended durations.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to stand and walk job sites as required.


Education



  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management certification preferred.
  • RCDD certification preferred but not required.


Work Experience



  • Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience in structured cabling and hyperscale data center environments.
  • Prior experience managing large-scale technical infrastructure or data center construction projects.

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)



  • This role requires regular travel to active data center construction sites.
  • Typical schedule expectation of approximately 50-60 hours per week depending on project phase and site requirements.
  • Project environments include hyperscale data center new construction projects with large multi-million-dollar scopes.
  • Daily per diem may be provided when applicable.
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities tied to project profitability may be available.
