Position Overview

The CAS Assessor is responsible for arranging, conducting, and completing accurate and thorough assessments using a person-centered approach. The Coordinated Assessment System (CAS) is an assessment tool used by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) to evaluate the strengths, needs, and interests of individuals age 18 and older receiving OPWDD services. Assessments are conducted through interviews and observations in person and virtually at times and locations convenient for the individual. The CAS Assessor works collaboratively with individuals, caregivers, support staff, and providers to ensure accurate and comprehensive assessments while maintaining quality and productivity standards.

Job Responsibilities




  • Conduct outreach to individuals and caregivers or primary supports regarding assigned assessments



  • Schedule and coordinate assessment appointments with individuals, caregivers, care managers, and providers in home, community, or telehealth settings



  • Conduct person-centered assessments at locations and times convenient for the individual



  • Utilize conversational, person-centered interviewing techniques during assessments



  • Conduct supplemental interviews with caregivers and supports to verify assessment information and coding accuracy



  • Review records and multiple information sources prior to finalizing assessments



  • Arrange interpreter services when necessary



  • Complete all assessments using designated software applications



  • Accurately code assessments in accordance with training and program guidelines



  • Document all case activity according to program requirements



  • Meet or exceed established monthly productivity standards



  • Ensure all completed assessments meet established quality standards and required timelines



  • Maintain compliance with annual performance standards and evaluation criteria



  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management




Job Requirements




  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills



  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills



  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities



  • Proficient computer skills, including web-based applications, email, and Microsoft Word



  • Experience using spreadsheet or database software



  • Ability to adapt interviewing techniques to effectively communicate with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, caregivers, and clinical staff



  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the assigned region



  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and active auto insurance required for assessors located outside the NYC five boroughs



  • Ability to accommodate flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends as needed




Education




  • Bachelor's degree in an approved human services discipline required




Work Experience




  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities



  • Experience working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families



  • Knowledge of available supports and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred

Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)




  • This is a hybrid role involving both in-person and virtual assessments



  • Travel within the assigned region is required, with assignments generally located within approximately 1.5 to 2 hours from the assessor's home location



  • A four-week paid training program is provided, including remote instruction and mock assessment completion in both virtual and in-person settings



  • Some evening and weekend availability is required based on scheduling needs
