Position Description

A research intern is needed to conduct cutting-edge research focused on the neural circuit mechanisms of decision-making. The candidate will assist in performing experiments involving manipulation, measurement, and analysis of brain activity in behaving mice, anatomical neural circuit mapping, and various molecular and histological assays of post-mortem brain tissue. The appointment is for a limited duration, anticipated length of one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year. This position is designed for individuals who:

* Seek training, experience, and mentoring in a research setting

* Plan to pursue a graduate or professional degree in science, medicine or a related field, and

* Have US citizenship or permanent residence

Position Responsibilities

* Perform experiments using state-of-the-art methods for manipulating and measuring neural activity in behaving mice, including viral-mediated gene delivery, stereotaxic surgery, virtual-reality based rodent behavior, large-scale electrophysiological recordings, optogenetics, chemogenetics, and pharmacology

* Keep detailed and organized electronic records of experimental design, protocols, computer data analysis and raw data

* Maintain colonies of genetically modified mice: breeding, weaning and genotyping of the mice as well as maintaining electronic records of the colonies.

* Perform general laboratory and reagent ordering to maintain essential supplies and consumables

Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a biomedical related science or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience in the areas of neuroscience, psychology, computer science, biology, statistics, or engineering. Minimum 3.2 GPA.

Required Qualifications

Prior undergraduate or post-undergraduate laboratory research experience.
