The Office of Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) at Georgia Tech is a research and analytics service unit dedicated to supporting the campus community. Our team of institutional research and data analytics professionals combines technical and creative skills to inform institutional strategic decision-making, planning, and research across campus. In addition to institutional reporting and compliance, IRP provides data education, support, and resources to all campus units.

Job Summary

Oversee the creation of data sets, writing documentation and specifications for reports that support the Institutional Research Team. Transition IRP staff to the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). Provide technical guidance regarding data extraction. Produce dashboards, slide decks, studies, and reports that provide useful information to inform key stakeholders. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations. This position will interact on a regular basis with IRP (Institutional Research) directors, EDM (Enterprise Data Management) team, analysts, data service administrators, internal and external customers. This position typically will advise and counsel: IRP and EDM staff and management. This position will supervise: assigned Institutional Research staff.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Perform advanced and complex analysis of business requirements, write specifications for the requirements, and coordinate the gathering and analysis of functional design requirements.

Job Duty 2 -
Manage a seamless transition to new data structure by working closely with EDM team to develop specifications to interact with new data warehouse.

Job Duty 3 -
Coordinate the development of test cases and detailed test scripts in conjunction with business analysts from both the IRP and EDM teams.

Job Duty 4 -
Assist in the assignment of projects and tasks to staff in a strategic way to maintain the most efficient project process flow possible.

Job Duty 5 -
Create documentation on reports and processes within IRP for consistency in data and reporting.

Job Duty 6 -
Coordinate with management and technical staff to maintain fast paced schedule of projects and maintain up to date knowledge of projects' status at all times.

Job Duty 7 -
Write and conduct relevant research using enterprise and external data sources to discover trends and patterns facing Georgia Tech and higher education.

Job Duty 8 -
Identify data standards and best practices for data management and maintain knowledge on a broad range of data repositories including their submission, data ownership, and use arrangements.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities also include

  • Modernizing IRP's data infrastructure and processes to leverage contemporary data management standards and best practices
  • Transitioning the office to an enterprise supported Azure SQL Database including developing an effective schema structure for IRP's data mart
  • Proactively engaging in data management, validation, and curation for reporting and compliance efforts
  • Serving as a subject-matter expert (SME) for data definitions including technical and functional contexts
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Business, Marketing Research, Statistics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Qualifications
The job requires one who is task and detail oriented; flexible, and able to perform multiple, various tasks concurrently. Excellent communications skills are required as well as the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems that are varied t nature.

Required Experience
Five to seven years of job related experience

Required Qualifications

This position will also manage a team engaged in data management for IRP and requires supervisory experience including effective leadership and managerial experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of statistical software (Tableau, SPS, STATA, SPSS or R), proficiency in SQL. Advanced statistics knowledge Experience in higher education or research

Preferred Experience
Five to seven years of higher education experience

Proposed Salary

Annual salary range of $112,410 - $115,000 commensurate with experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
Working knowledge of integrated information systems and reporting practices. Ability to analyze data from large databases, knowledge of advanced query, reporting, statistical analysis and data mining. Demonstrated understanding of the research data lifecycle from the data acquisition to curation and the tools used to manage those data throughout the process. Experience leading and managing service, product or project teams required. Experience working with data management required. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong team-orientation, and professional attitude. Highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. Strong project planning, management and execution skills. Self-motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges and solve problems. Excellent written and communication skills.
