Job Summary

Manage, evaluate, and oversee mechanical and electrical systems to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, safely, and in accordance with quality standards. This role is responsible for leading coordination efforts among project teams, subcontractors, and consultants while overseeing installation activities, schedules, budgets, and quality control processes related to MEP systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and experience managing complex construction projects. Previous experience supporting biotech or pharmaceutical construction projects is strongly preferred.

Locations include Raleigh, Birmingham, Indianapolis, Denver, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Job Responsibilities




  • Lead project teams, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure alignment and efficient installation of mechanical and electrical systems.



  • Prepare and manage contract item lists for components, materials, and systems while ensuring schedule compliance and approval status tracking.



  • Participate in project schedule update meetings and provide accurate project status information.



  • Evaluate and manage the processing of Requests for Information (RFIs).



  • Review, evaluate, and negotiate change orders while monitoring subcontractor financial performance and project budgets.



  • Supervise, coach, and mentor Assistant MEP Engineers.



  • Co-lead the MEP coordination process with the VDC Engineer to ensure systems are installed according to design, operational, maintenance, and quality standards.



  • Prepare scope of work documents outlining trade responsibilities and temporary operational requirements.



  • Partner with the MEP Superintendent to resolve conflicts involving MEP systems and site logistics while maintaining schedule adherence.



  • Co-lead turnover activities with the MEP Superintendent, including start-up, testing, commissioning, and project closeout processes.



  • Conduct regular project walkthroughs to verify work aligns with contract documents, coordination drawings, and approved submittals.



  • Identify complex installation requirements and communicate them to field staff to support effective planning and execution.



  • Manage and secure municipal and agency documentation required for temporary certificates of occupancy and system operations.



  • Develop and implement quality control plans in partnership with the MEP Superintendent.




Job Requirements




  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience in mechanical and electrical systems.



  • Minimum of four years of relevant engineering experience in construction or MEP systems management.



  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and their integration across complex projects.



  • Experience supporting biotech or pharmaceutical construction projects preferred.



  • Strong business acumen with the ability to plan, manage, and execute complex projects effectively.



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.



  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.



  • Proficiency with standard computer applications and construction-related software.



  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to develop and lead high-performing teams.



  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, navigate active construction sites, and use construction personnel hoists.



  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. occasionally.



  • Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.



  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.




Work Experience




  • Minimum of four years of experience managing or supporting mechanical and electrical systems within commercial construction projects.



  • Experience with large-scale healthcare, biotech, pharmaceutical, or mission-critical construction projects is preferred.
