Job Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates based on construction drawings and specifications while supporting bid development and project planning activities. This role collaborates closely with internal teams, design professionals, and trade partners to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive pricing. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Previous biotech or pharmaceutical project experience is strongly preferred. This is a remote position that may be performed anywhere within the United States.

Locations include Raleigh, Birmingham, Indianapolis, Denver, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Job Responsibilities




  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and estimate input for assigned scopes of work



  • Develop and assemble bids and proposals for various contract types, including Lump Sum, Guaranteed Maximum Price, and Cost Plus projects



  • Manage project documentation, including the receipt, organization, and distribution of drawings and specifications



  • Serve as a liaison between trade partners, design teams, and internal stakeholders



  • Support constructability reviews through coordination with project teams, designers, and trade partners



  • Conduct value analysis studies to identify cost-effective alternatives and solutions



  • Analyze contract documents, site logistics, schedules, and construction methods to ensure complete scope coverage



  • Prepare scope requisitions and coordinate with internal teams to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps



  • Perform comparison analyses against historical and previous project estimates



  • Solicit, review, and evaluate trade partner proposals and document findings



  • Participate in post-bid reviews and manage follow-up action items



  • Finalize trade partner scopes and provide award recommendations to project leadership



  • Supervise and support junior estimating staff as assigned



  • Collaborate with procurement and operations teams to support project planning and execution



  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned




Job Requirements




  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience



  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant estimating or construction experience



  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices



  • Ability to read and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, and project schedules



  • Proficiency in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing estimating documentation



  • Ability to work effectively with limited information and quickly understand project requirements



  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines



  • Effective verbal and written communication skills



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with estimating software



  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments, including procurement and operations



  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally




Education




  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred




Work Experience




  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating or a related field



  • Experience supporting biotech or pharmaceutical projects is strongly preferred
