Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer supports research, development, and new product introduction activities within the aerospace and mission systems domain. This role is responsible for leading mechanical design efforts for pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems used in demanding aerospace and aviation applications. The engineer will perform design, analysis, testing, risk management, and cross-functional coordination activities while contributing technical leadership across multiple projects.


Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute mechanical product design and development activities within project cost and schedule requirements
  • Develop conceptual designs into mature, manufacturable product solutions
  • Perform engineering analysis, risk assessment, and technical problem resolution activities
  • Support research, development, testing, qualification, and certification efforts for aerospace products and systems
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, testing, program management, suppliers, and customers
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and design for manufacturing principles throughout the product lifecycle
  • Develop engineering standards, design guides, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage technical risks through data-driven design changes and mitigation strategies
  • Support product validation activities including failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Support system and component design activities involving high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, 3D CAD models, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace regulatory standards, certifications, and customer requirements


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in system, product design, development, or production design problem resolution
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawing standards and GD&T
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work independently with limited oversight


Technical Qualifications

Experience with several of the following areas is preferred:



  • Aerospace new product introduction (NPI) methods
  • High-pressure pneumatic system design
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic valve design
  • Valve sealing technologies and static/dynamic seal design
  • Stress analysis including static, fatigue, vibration, and acceleration analysis
  • Dynamic and steady-state performance modeling
  • Electromagnetic systems including solenoid and latch valves
  • Control systems and thermodynamics
  • DFSS or Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodologies
  • Failure investigations and root cause analysis


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Design for Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification
  • Aerospace or aviation industry experience preferred


Additional Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR regulations (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee)


Work Environment

  • Fast-paced aerospace engineering and product development environment
  • Collaborative cross-functional engineering and manufacturing setting
  • May support laboratory, testing, and production environments as required
