Description

Job Responsibilities



  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items outgoing or incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, packing slips, address labels and other records.


  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.


  • Routes incoming items to correct departments.


  • Packages items in appropriate containers. Affixes labels and shipping instructions onto containers.


  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.


  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.


  • Operates equipment to move, convey, or hoist shipments between shipping/receiving area and storage or work areas.


  • Coordinates with carriers to schedule pick-ups and deliveries.


  • Ensures timely dispatch of all outgoing shipments.


  • Follows all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Reports any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.


  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Skills Requirements



  • Good organizational and time management skills.


  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.


  • Basic math and computer skills.


Educational Requirements



  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and experience.


Experience Requirements



  • Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or a warehouse environment preferred but not required.


  • Familiarity with shipping and receiving procedures and equipment is a plus.


Physical & Environmental Requirements



  • Some physical demand; often lifts light to heavy-weight material. Frequent lifting/moving average weight (up to 50 lbs/11-27 kgs) material.


  • Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling and/or reaching over a full work shift (8-12 hours).


  • Ability to operate motorized vehicles over a full work shift (8-12 hours).


  • Ability to stand and / or walk constantly over a full work shift on concrete (8-12 hours).


  • May be exposed to noise levels for which hearing protection is required to be worn over a full work shift (8-12 hours).
