Position: Maintenance Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and directing a team of four maintenance technicians in the upkeep, repair, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment, facilities, and utilities
.
This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, regulatory compliance, and a safe working environment to support the production of high-quality carbon, graphite, ceramic, and complementary products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, schedule, and provide day-to-day direction to a team of four maintenance technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations, set individual goals, and facilitate ongoing training and development.
- Foster a collaborative, safety-first team culture aligned with Schunk's operational standards.
- Coordinate workload distribution to ensure efficient coverage across all shifts and maintenance priorities.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all preventive maintenance (PM) activities for manufacturing equipment, electrical systems, utilities, and building infrastructure.
- Respond to and resolve equipment breakdowns and unplanned downtime, minimizing production impact.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment histories in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Facilities & Equipment Management
- Oversee maintenance and repair of manufacturing equipment used in carbon, graphite, and ceramic production processes.
- Manage facility systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, compressed air, and dust collection.
- Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors and vendors; review and approve work quality.
- Maintain spare parts inventory; manage procurement of parts and supplies within budget parameters.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and ISO quality standards.
- Conduct and document safety inspections, equipment lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and hazard assessments.
- Lead or support investigation of near-misses, incidents, and corrective action plans.
- Maintain compliance documentation for equipment certifications, inspections, and regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement & Projects
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce energy consumption, and lower maintenance costs.
- Support capital project planning, equipment installations, and facility modifications.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to align maintenance priorities with operational goals.
- Track and report key maintenance metrics including downtime, PM completion rates, and cost per repair.
QUALIFICATIONS
:
Required
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related field - OR - equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
- Demonstrated experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS software.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, LOTO procedures, and industrial safety practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to coordinate across departments and with outside vendors.
Preferred
- Experience in a carbon, graphite, ceramics, or advanced materials manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) troubleshooting experience.
- Experience managing facilities in a dusty or high-temperature industrial environment.
- Bilingual skills a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, heat, and varying temperatures.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.
