Certified 3rd Shift Commercial Kitchen Appliance Technician Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and certified Commercial Kitchen Appliance Technician to join our facilities maintenance team on the 3rd shift. This role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all commercial kitchen equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations during overnight hours. Schedule 3rd Shift: 9:00 PM - 5:30 AM Key Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, ranges, fryers, griddles, steamers, dishwashers, refrigeration units, ice machines, and food preparation equipment. Perform preventive maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and established schedules to minimize equipment downtime. Respond promptly to emergency equipment failures during overnight operations to restore functionality and minimize service disruption. Conduct routine inspections to identify potential issues before they result in equipment failure. Document all maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment performance in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and sanitation regulations including local health department codes and OSHA requirements. Maintain adequate inventory of commonly used parts and supplies, submitting requisitions for specialty items as needed. Coordinate with equipment vendors and outside service contractors when specialized repairs exceed in-house capabilities. Provide guidance and training to kitchen staff on proper equipment operation and basic troubleshooting. Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained. Required Qualifications Certifications: Valid certification from an accredited commercial appliance technical program (e.g., CFESA certification, manufacturer-specific certifications for major brands such as Vulcan, Hobart, Traulsen, or equivalent) Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing commercial kitchen equipment in a high-volume environment Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrical systems (120V-480V), gas systems, refrigeration principles, and mechanical troubleshooting Licenses: EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification required Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and stand/kneel for extended periods Other: Valid driver's license with clean driving record; ability to pass background check and drug screening Preferred Qualifications Additional manufacturer certifications (Rational, Cleveland, Southbend, True, etc.) Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems HVAC-R certification or equivalent technical training Familiarity with CMMS software (Maximo, FMX, or similar platforms) Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during overnight hours Excellent communication skills for interacting with kitchen staff and management Customer service orientation with a focus on minimizing operational disruption Time management skills with ability to prioritize multiple service requests Commitment to safety protocols and continuous learning Compensation and Benefits Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience and certifications, plus shift differential for 3rd shift hours.
