Job Summary

(Hybrid position 2- year contract) Marketing Specialist to work under the direction of Brand Marketing Manager within the Public Affairs & Marketing Department of UC Davis Health. Then incumbent will split time 50/50 between the UC Cell and Gene Therapy program and Department of Surgery: Fetal Care & Treatment Center and CuRe trial (a joint program of The Center for Bioengineering in Medicine and the Fetal Care and Treatment Center). Incumbent's work will be specific to each group's needs including but not limited to: marketing plan development, webpage development (CMS work and writing), social media content (including video), paid media planning, production of marketing materials as needed (digital/social ads, print ads, brochures, PPT files, case studies, brochures and more). May support media relations efforts for national, science and trade audiences. Excellent oral and written skills required and a strong background in healthcare and/or health sciences is preferred. As part of the Public Affairs & Marketing (PA&M) Department and reporting to the Marketing team, develop and implement communications and marketing plans for departmental programs. Work will be specific to each program's needs including media relations (national, science, and trade), developing marketing plans for specific projects/programs, planning and maintaining web pages, developing social media content (including video, and including LinkedIn), facilitating the production of materials for clinical trial/patient recruitment, and other communications and marketing related deliverables as needed. The initial departmental assignments for this position will be a 50/50 split of time and work effort between the Department of Surgery's CuRE trial program and the Cell and Gene Therapy program. The CuRE trial is a joint program of The Center for Bioengineering in Medicine and the Fetal Care and Treatment Center. Work in this position requires extensive coordination with Public Affairs & Marketing teammates and the departments served within the organization.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, business, marketing or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years experience working in marketing/communications, including working with paid and earned media, email, direct mail, content development, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively, courteously and cooperatively with a wide range of individuals, including: faculty/physicians and staff; business professionals; patients; consumers; and vendors. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships throughout the University, health system and community.
  • Experience developing and implementing communications and marketing plans.
  • Knowledge of trafficking of paid media/advertisements across multiple mediums.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, including metrics-driven thinking.
  • Experience researching and analyzing information to identify trends, issues and potential invalid data.
  • Skilled reporting on progress of projects for informal briefings, formal presentations, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; prioritize work independently; manage and meet multiple deadlines, work quickly with minimal supervision, use independent judgment, complete work accuracy and with initiative. Ability to anticipate problems and recommend/implement changes/solutions
  • Ability to write clear and concise marketing communications, with accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation. Excellent editing and proofreading skills to produce clear, error-free documents.
  • Experienced with website content development and ability to use a Content Management System (CMS).
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Ability to enter data quickly and accurately, verify accuracy, and generate reports and lists.
  • Ability to take photos, record videos, and then edit and post multi-media content on relevant platforms (social media, web site, etc.).
  • Exceptional customer-service skills including problem-solving, cooperative language, empathy, flexibility and the ability to work with clients and staff within the department for quick and effective responses and problem-resolution. Ability and willingness to support institutional customer service requirements.
  • Ability to interpret UC Davis policy and procedures, laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy rights, copyrights and public information. Ability to interpret and apply UC Davis and UC Davis Health policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain and understand the need for professionalism at all times.
  • Willingness to learn and adhere to the UC Davis Principles of Community and CLAS Standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience related to health care and/or developing content/materials which gain the attention of target audiences and prompt them to take action.
  • Knowledge of the Cell and Gene Therapy field and/or advanced therapeutic research, cell manufacturing, and clinical trials.
  • Working knowledge of project management software or ability to manage projects accurately and effectively
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Knowledge of health care operations in a managed care environment, including understanding of interrelationship between health plan, medical group and provider selection.
  • Knowledge of UC Davis Health and its services, locations and accepted health plans.
  • Knowledge of medical research and distilling complicated concepts into communications and marketing materials that are easily understood by both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

Department Overview

The Department of Public Affairs and Marketing plans, manages and implements strategic communications (such as news services, public relations, marketing, internal and external communications) for UC Davis Health. Communications are aimed at a wide range of key constituencies such as: research collaborators; manufacturing clients; clinical trial sponsors; the news media; UC administration; UC Davis faculty, staff and students; government/regulatory leaders; external physicians; business leaders; patients and health care information seekers; and the general public. This position will help to serve the programs by ensuring relevant communications and marketing are developed that speak to these audiences and generate responses that are in alignment with the overall goals of each program and the University overall.
