What you will accomplish as a Electronic Test Engineer II at TAPCO: The Electronics Test Engineer II supports product development, validation, and manufacturing operations by designing and implementing test solutions, troubleshooting electronic systems, and validating product performance. This position collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to ensure products meet quality, reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support electronic test systems, fixtures, and test control equipment used for product validation and manufacturing.
- Lead and execute engineering validation testing activities for new and existing products.
- Coordinate engineering activities on the production floor to support manufacturing efficiency and product quality objectives.
- Develop, document, and improve manufacturing work instructions, test procedures, and validation protocols.
- Coordinate the calibration and maintenance of instruments, equipment, and control devices used for testing and data collection.
- Determine test methods, conditions, procedures, and acceptance criteria to evaluate product performance and reliability.
- Troubleshoot electronic products, assemblies, and systems to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, quality, and technical personnel to resolve product, process, and testing issues.
- Analyze, interpret, and present test data to support engineering decisions and product improvements.
- Prepare technical reports, validation documentation, and performance summaries for engineering and management review.
- Develop and utilize software and hardware tools to automate testing, collect data, and improve test efficiency.
- Support production final test implementation and ongoing manufacturing process improvements.
- Assist with product safety, FCC, and regulatory compliance testing activities.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve product quality, reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of electronic testing, troubleshooting, and validation methodologies.
- Experience developing and implementing engineering validation and production test processes.
- Understanding of product safety, regulatory, and FCC compliance requirements.
- Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate technical data and test results.
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
- Experience creating technical documentation, workflows, and test procedures.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Sound judgment, decision-making, and analytical thinking skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Experience with test automation, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems preferred.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field required.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in electronics testing, validation, manufacturing engineering, product development, or a related technical environment.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, engineering documentation, professional journals, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to prepare reports, technical documentation, business correspondence, and work instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information to employees, customers, and management.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts including fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, trigonometry, and statistical analysis to engineering and testing applications.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate product performance and test data.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve complex technical problems involving multiple variables and limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions presented in written, verbal, diagrammatic, and schedule-based formats.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using engineering software, electronic test equipment, data acquisition systems, and test automation tools preferred.
