Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Instructor for Diabetes Certificate Programs is a subject matter expert responsible for facilitation and instruction for the suite of Diabetes Essentials Certificate programs, including tracks for paraprofessionals, clinicians, and specialty tracks. This position reports directly to the Executive Director for the Center for Professional and Continuing Education.

Benerd College offers continuing education and professional development opportunities such as certificates, online courses, and degree completion for non-traditional students and working professionals. The College currently seeks a subject matter expert with a creative and entrepreneurial spirit to serve a vital role as we fulfill our vision to continue to offer programs to support public health initiatives. This entails educating, empowering, and preparing a pipeline of healthcare professionals for the local workforce who are specifically trained in diabetes management and education. The Diabetes Certificate programs focus on innovative learning design, learning environments, and learning experiences in clinical and non-clinical settings. We hope to find a colleague who will help us move even further in stewarding the most transformational and impactful program possible and to educate a pipeline of health professionals specializing in diabetes in the Stockton metro area.

This is a grant-funded position with a six-month appointment, with the possibility of further employment after the six-month assignment pending grant continuation.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated subject matter expertise in diabetes education and will show evidence of or potential for research, leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.

This position will play a key role in sustaining the Diabetes Management Certificates by:

  • Serving as a subject matter expert, the instructor will be responsible for facilitation and instruction of all diabetes continuing education programs in an online setting. * Ensuring curriculum for the Clinical and Paraprofessional Diabetes Certificates are current and relevant.
  • Serving as a contact for prospective and current students in the program
  • Engaging with prospective students where applicable.
  • Ongoing assessment of program needs and course performance, utilizing course evaluations and student feedback to provide updates to course content if needed.
  • Maintaining records of essential program information including spreadsheets, budgets, and logs of previous programs and year's activities.
  • Serving as primary contact for Continuing Medical Education (CME) partnership and other relevant industry organizations where subject matter expertise is required (University of California San Francisco (UCSF), National Association of Social Workers (NASW)).
  • Assisting with the collection of course data for various unit publications as well as granting funding requirements.
  • Working as liaison to academic units and other stakeholders regarding course additions, cancellations, revisions, etc. to serve overall student needs.
  • Monitoring and answering programming inquiries.
  • Performing miscellaneous other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's or advanced degree in a healthcare disciple
  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated Expertise in Diabetes Education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a caring and rigorous educational environment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively engage with colleagues in innovative program development and teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and working with students from multicultural communities
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in working in clinical partnership, as well as partnerships with schools, community groups, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations, as appropriate to the position
  • Demonstrated successful in-person, hybrid, and/or online teaching or learning experience

Hiring Range $70.00 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
