Position Overview

AdviseTX College Advisers will help Texas high school students with the aim to increase college and career readiness and postsecondary enrollment among lowincome, firstgeneration and underrepresented high school students. AdviseTX Hybrid College Advisers will be responsible for ensuring students have the necessary information to explore the full range of college options, host events and workshops geared towards college admission and financial aid, track student engagement and programmatic milestones leading to enrollment, and more.This is a grantfunded position. Continued employment is contingent upon available grantfunding.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to mentor and coach others.Proficiency in MS Office Suite, and virtual conferencing platforms such as MS Teams and Zoom.
  • Ability to coordinate and attend events and meetings at times beyond traditional office working hours is required.
  • Excellent communication, verbal, presentation and leadership skills.Ability to make decisions independently and, at times, with little to no direction. Strong and creative problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to collect, analyze and report various types of data sets.
  • Ability to work urgently on multiple tasks at once in a fast paced and results oriented environment.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with a number of teams and individuals to accomplish the goals of the program.
  • Commitment to the success of high school students through the college application process.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Previous college admission and financial aid experience.
  • Knowledge of college access best practices, admission rules and regulations, FERPA, and university policies.
  • Familiarity with the UNT Dallas campus, its historical landmarks, and points of interest and location of both academic and non-academic offices.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.


Job Duties



  • Provide one on one assistance to high school students in order to research, apply to and enroll in best fit colleges that will serve them well. To include helping students complete the admissions and financial aid application processes.
  • Assess, in consultation with AdviseTX Program Manager and partner school personnel, the particular needs of each school and adapt programs and activities to meet these needs.
  • Work to engage families or guardians in support of their students college going outcomes as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with school personnel to promote the college going culture at the school, including but not limited to visiting classrooms, assemblies and student organization meetings to offer college advising services, organizing a Decision Day event to celebrate the college going decisions of graduating seniors, and other workshop and programs as needed to reach established college going goals.
  • Record uptodate service activity data using the College Advising Corps webbased system, GRACE
  • Submit progress reports to the AdviseTX Program Manager documenting progress and outcome data.
  • Establish productive working relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in assigned partner school/district.
  • Participate fully in pre and inservice training in order to develop professionally.

  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
