Target hiring range for this position will be between $140,000 - $155,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
Job Summary:
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach reports to the Head Men's Basketball Coach and assists the Head Coach in the coaching and training of the Men's Basketball Team. This position is a full-time appointment, renewable on a contract basis, May 1 through April 30.

Specific Responsibilities:
Coaching
- Assist the head coach in the coaching and training of the Northwestern Men's Basketball team; developing and conducting all in-season and out-of-season sessions throughout the year as deemed necessary and appropriate.
- Aid in the psychological preparation of team in both pre-game and post-game; and for developing motivational approach to practice and games.
- Develop comprehensive knowledge of men's basketball in decision-making, delegating authority and in setting and meeting objectives.
Recruiting
- Assist the head coach in the recruitment of top student-athletes, commensurate with the admissions qualifications of Northwestern University who are capable of successfully competing at the Big Ten level.
- Maintains good relations with the parents of prospective and current student-athletes as well as with Northwestern Alumni.
Alumni Relations, Public Relations and Development
- Maintains sound alumni relations.
- Promotes and participates in various alumni events.
- Assist Athletic Development staff in fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Department and the University.
- Responsible for maintaining good public relations with the public news media, and working with the Athletic Communications department in promoting Northwestern University.
- Maintain amicable public relations with faculty, staff, students and media of the University; friends, alumni support groups and secondary school coaches.
Administrative/Other
- Report to the Head Coach and faithfully and diligently carry out other Department related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports in the Intercollegiate and Recreational programs.
- Work with appropriate NUDAR staff in preparing for all home basketball games.
- Cooperate with the Athletic Communications department and the Marketing department in publicizing and marketing Northwestern Basketball.
- Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference, CSC and the NCAA.
- Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings
Miscellaneous
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- Experience coaching at the intercollegiate, international or professional level

- Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact and establish engaging relationships with a wide variety of constituents.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
- Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University preferred
