Cutting Tool Supervisor

The Cutting Tool Supervisor will be responsible for managing small work teams in a fast paced, high volume, unionized, manufacturing environment. This role focuses on supporting production by resolving processing constraints through effective problem-solving, preventative maintenance, and tool optimization. The selected candidate will develop and maintain tooling standards, manage changes and sourcing for new and existing tools, coordinate preventative maintenance, and control tooling costs through evaluations to ensure the best value.

Nature and Scope / Principal Accountabilities:



  • Interface with manufacturing to resolve processing issues through preventative maintenance or potential tool changes
  • Develop and maintain tool standards, tool drawings, and tool identification records
  • Identify critical spare components, establish inventory and replenish system
  • Manage all costs for initial builds and audit any change to cost to assure lowest cost per unit
  • Research alternative tooling sources for better cost, quality, and delivery
  • Work closely with the Process Engineering during tool tryouts to make sure the tool functions efficiently
  • Manage changes to tools
  • Serve on program teams to manage the sourcing of new product tooling
  • Manage and track complete timing of tool build compared to a master program timing schedule
  • Ensure a safe workplace, leads the Team to improve Safety in the area and enforces the use of mandated Safety tools and procedures
  • Ensure the right allocation of the people, manages absenteeism, trains and builds teams
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor


Basic Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in a Technical / Engineering discipline required; or High School Diploma/GED with Journeymen status with minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience; or Minimum of 10 years of technical/manufacturing experience
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, excellent organization, written and oral communication skills, possess a working knowledge of advanced technical problem-solving tools
  • Ability to interface with various levels of employees within all areas of the plant from hourly represented employees to senior leadership as required
  • Goal oriented and a self-starter and ability to lead and manage in a team-based structure
