| Job Description Summary |
Nazareth University seeks a service-oriented professional to join a team of dedicated staff who work to provide library users with the resources they needs for research and learning. Reporting to the Head of Circulation, this key member of the team is responsible for overall operation of the Library Circulation Desk, providing access to library materials and information about the services, facilities and policies of Nazareth University Library. We are looking for someone who will be welcoming, professional, and helpful. This position supervises circulation operations in the evening hours, providing high level of customer service and expert assistance to all patrons who use the Lorette Wilmot Library as well as supervising, training and assigning tasks to student workers. Responsible for security of the library building, resolving security and safety issues, and carrying out proper procedure in event of an emergency, as well as responsible for closing of the building at night.
This position supports a range of functions across the library, including circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance, and interlibrary loan, as well as overseeing traditional circulation operations such as checking books in and out, collecting fines, and registration of new patrons. Additionally, assists patrons in locating material, and provides general reference services, including help with the various databases and other web-based resources.
During the academic year, the schedule is:
Sunday - Thursday, 3:45 p.m.-11:15 p.m.
At certain times of year, hours may start earlier and extend later (up to midnight) and weekends. During academic breaks and summer, this position shifts to Monday-Friday daytime hours. All shifts are onsite. Team members are expected to be flexible with their schedules and to provide backup coverage for one another.
*This is a staff bargaining unit position.

| Essential Functions |
Assists patrons in locating and accessing materials and utilizing library services.
- Circulates materials internally and externally.
- Demonstrates an exemplary manner in dealing with the public, including the ability to de-escalate tense or difficult patron interactions.
- Collaborates with faculty in meeting their needs for service.
- Maintains physical library collections, and library equipment, including , maintenance of the stacks, assigning shelf maintenance to our student assistants, and the arrangement and shifting of collections.
Monitors library operations
- During assigned shifts, is responsible for the operation of the Library Circulation Desk, including directing the work of student employees on shift.
- Confers with appropriate parties in making, changing and implementing library policies and procedures; interprets and enforces these policies.
- Observes and notifies supervisor of any safety, security, or other issues; implements sound judgment in resolving issues when a supervisor is not present.
Other
- Trains student assistants on computer system operation, library policies and procedures, and customer service. Then trains students to assist patrons in using the library services.
- Directs patrons to appropriate staff as requested. Assists with basic reference questions, referring as appropriate.

| Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- Previous supervisory experience
- Proven ability to work independently, be self-motivated and manage priorities without day-to-day supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to work with other members of a well-integrated team.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; must be able to remain professional and courteous at all times.

| Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- 1 - 3 years of customer service experience is desirable, as is experience with computer/information technology and previous supervisory and library experience.
- Experience with ALMA a plus.

| Physical Requirements |
- Manual dexterity is necessary due to the lifting/moving of books.
- Standard office environment, with repetitive motion. Candidates will needs to have the ability to lift/carry up to 20 pounds and push/pull up to 80 pounds.
