Since 1966, the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), a division of Hudson Valley Community College and part of the State University of New York, has offered tuition-free academic and workforce development opportunities to disadvantaged and educationally under-prepared individuals.

The Capital District Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is currently recruiting for the position of:
Student Services Specialist EOC-NTP-71526
Education (Minimum Requirements):
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with two (2) years relevant, paid work experience or; Associates Degree from an accredited college or university with four (4) years paid relevant work experience.
B. Employment Experience Preferred:
Experience in Student Services, Community Relations, or a closely related field.
C. Pertinent Other:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with multicultural and low-income populations.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills.
Ability to work well with others as part of a team.
Patient, persuasive and congenial personality.
Ability to conduct presentations.
Working knowledge of computer applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
D. Preferred Other:
Familiarity of regulations surrounding student records, Banner or other educational database systems, testing and assessments for educational gains.
Nature and Scope of Duties
The Student Services Specialist reports to one of the Assistant Coordinator for Student Services and performs the following duties:
1. Builds and maintains relationships with students, providing ongoing coaching and mentoring to positively impact student achievement.
2. Conducts intake meetings with incoming and continuing students; provides information on next steps.
3. Maintains positive relationships with administrators, faculty and staff. Disseminates information in a clear, appropriate and timely manner.
4. Performs a wide range of administrative responsibilities including data entry, record maintenance, and abiding by all laws and regulations around student records.
5. Creates and maintains organized records of student contact and follow up, respecting confidentiality.
6. Completes necessary correspondence and reports using appropriate software and technology as needed.
7. Participates in internal and external organization and community events, providing information in one-on-one, small group and presentation formats.
8. Promotes EOC programs and services and assists in recruitment activities through participation in outreach and promotional events that support program goals and EOC enrollment.
9. Helps build and maintain a positive public image for EOC with the general public, private and non-profit organizations, and educational institutions.
10. Serves as subject matter expert for assigned area; develops a working knowledge of all other areas of Student Services. Assigned areas in Student Support Services may include Enrollment Services, College and Employment Services, Testing, or Student Services in general.
A. Those assigned to Enrollment Services would focus on the following tasks, but understand that they may be asked to fulfill requirements of other departmental roles:
* Conducts individual interviews and follow up with applicants to ensure proper completion of forms and to determine applicant eligibility.
* Responds to applicant calls of inquiry; contact prospective applicants.
* Administers tests and assessments upon request.
* Manages student enrollment in classes including registration, drop/delete, withdrawal and advisement.
* Performs other duties as may be assigned in support of enrollment functions.
B. Those assigned to College & Career Services would focus on the following tasks, but understand that they may be asked to fulfill requirements of other departmental roles:
* Supports students in successfully achieving college and employment goals.
* Reviews and critiques resume profiles and college applications.
* Completes placement memos for student files confirming employment and college information.
* Attends area job and college fairs and other related programs to market EOC and its graduates.
* Research and shares appropriate job opportunities with students and graduates.
* Works with faculty and staff to design college and job-related activities.
* Administers tests and assessments upon request.
* Performs other duties as may be assigned in support of college and career services functions.
C. Those assigned to Testing would focus on the following tasks but understand that they may be asked to fulfill requirements of other departmental roles.
* Administers tests and assessments.
* Completes documents and reports as required.
* Performs other duties as may be assigned in support of center testing functions.
D. Those assigned as Student Services in general would focus on tasks assigned by the Coordinator of Student Services and in support of general student services functions but understand that they may be asked to fulfill requirements of other departmental roles.
11. On occasion, performs functions on evenings, weekends, and/or at offsite assignments with adjusted day/week schedule as needed.
12. Performs other related duties as may be assigned
The starting salary for this position is $40,000.
