Location: Tampa, FL
Employment Type: 3+ Month Contract (Possibility of Conversion to Permanent)
Shift: 1st Shift (Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM)

Job Summary

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimens, ensuring specimen integrity, maintaining accurate patient records, and delivering exceptional customer service. This role also supports laboratory operations through quality assurance, specimen processing, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure all laboratory requisitions match specimen labels with 100% accuracy.
  • Explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Collect additional specimens such as urine and fecal samples when required.
  • Prepare and package specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity and required temperature conditions.
  • Update patient demographic and medical information accurately.
  • Record equipment maintenance activities and perform routine decontamination procedures.
  • Review physician orders and ensure compliance with testing requirements.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory information as appropriate.
  • Participate in department training and contribute to workflow improvements.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, DEP, and all applicable laboratory safety and quality standards.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state regulations).
  • Minimum of 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, or patient service center.
  • Experience with specimen processing and handling.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
