Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM | Saturday Rotation: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM


Job Summary

The Phlebotomist II is responsible for performing specimen collection and processing while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with laboratory procedures. This role also supports troubleshooting, workflow improvements, and patient care in a fast-paced laboratory environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to laboratory procedures.
  • Verify laboratory requisitions and specimen labels for accuracy.
  • Explain blood draw and specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Record equipment maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures.
  • Store and transport specimens according to temperature and protocol requirements to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Understand and follow physician orders and laboratory protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DEP, and all laboratory safety regulations.
  • Attend required departmental training sessions.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as appropriate.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipuncture in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • Valid state Phlebotomy Certification (where required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong specimen handling and processing experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and patient care skills.
