Job Title: Struct & Payload Design Engineer 3

Duration: 6 Months

Location: North Charleston, SC 29418

Worksite: Onsite | 1st Shift | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Job Description

Develops, integrates, and documents structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.

Develops, maintains, and modifies structural and interior payload system and component designs using 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and/or other design methods to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers, and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.

Performs and integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.

Manages supplier development, test, and production activities and coordinates with suppliers to optimize the design and achieve program goals.

Develops new design and analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of the development effort.

Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

Works under general direction.

The Payloads organization is responsible for everything you see when you fly, and a lot that you don't, including aircraft interiors, cargo compartments, exterior markings, associated systems, and cabin safety.

The selected candidate will support the product lifecycle, including customer configuration development, supplier engagement, validation and verification of design requirements, business integration, and production and certification support. This role requires collaboration with project engineering, production engineering, program/product teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions.

Final assignment will be based on business needs and candidate experience.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support and project leadership within a production system.
  • Directly engage with aerospace suppliers and/or airlines.
  • Validate and demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work with regulatory agencies.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) initiatives.
  • Perform aircraft cargo compartment and handling system design, integration, and/or certification activities.
  • Work under general direction.
  • Support one of the Payloads Interior organizations based on experience and business needs.



Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Material Sciences.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, including design, integration, and/or certification, or an equivalent combination of additional education and relevant experience.



Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience with FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent regulations.
  • Experience with aerospace interiors, materials and properties, design criteria, and release processes.
  • Experience in program or project management, including development and execution of schedules, financial assessments, resource planning, and risk/issue management.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of media for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous personal learning and professional development.
