Title: Specimen Processor Location: USA - OR - Portland - 4400 Northeast Halsey Street (OR1010) Duration: 3+ Months Schedule: 40 Hours/Week , 3rd Shift Shift Hours: 8 pm-530am Work Arrangement: Onsite Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Specimen Processor to join a high-volume laboratory environment. This role is responsible for specimen accessioning, sample sorting, data entry, specimen preparation, and ensuring biological samples are accurately processed according to standard operating procedures. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with human specimens in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy. Key Responsibilities Receive, unpack, sort, and accession incoming biological specimens. Verify patient demographic information against test requisitions. Enter patient and specimen information accurately into the laboratory information system. Prepare specimens by opening, aliquoting, and transferring samples into secondary containers. Route specimens to appropriate laboratory departments for testing. Package and ship specimens to designated testing facilities when required. Properly store excess specimens following laboratory procedures. Identify, resolve, and document specimen discrepancies or processing issues. Handle and dispose of biological and chemical waste according to safety guidelines. Operate laboratory equipment and automated instrumentation under supervision. Maintain productivity, turnaround time, and quality metrics in a high-volume environment. Follow all laboratory SOPs, OSHA, HIPAA, and environmental health and safety regulations. Work collaboratively with laboratory staff while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 0-2 years of experience in a laboratory, healthcare, medical, production, warehouse, or manufacturing environment. Basic computer proficiency with accurate data entry and typing skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Comfortable handling biological specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples. Ability to stand or sit for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Strong hand-eye coordination and color recognition. Must successfully complete a standardized color vision test. Preferred Qualifications Previous specimen processing, accessioning, laboratory assistant, medical assistant, phlebotomy, or healthcare experience. Experience working in a high-volume production or laboratory environment. Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) or electronic medical records. Familiarity with specimen handling, shipping, and laboratory safety procedures.
