Sign Technician I

Recruitment: The State Highway Administration (SHA) in the Office of Traffic and Safety is currently recruiting a Sign Technician I in Anne Arundel County. This is an Interview and Hire position that is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. This job announcement may be used for future vacancies throughout the State of Maryland.
Nature of Work: This position will serve as an entry level Sign Technician I in the Sign Operations Section (SOS) of the Traffic Operations Division (TOD). The primary responsibilities are to assist with all aspects of sign fabrication including the preparation of flat and extruded aluminum sign blanks for the application of text and silk-screened messages. The employee will learn the basics of sign fabrication including applying messages to signs in accordance with state and federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards and guidelines. This position will be trained to operate equipment such as hydraulic shears, silk screen tables, squeeze roller applicators, corner radius machine, and other hand and power tools. Employees in this position receive close supervision from the Sign Operations Supervisor or his/her designee. The incumbent will be required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements and may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day, as required for sign emergencies. This position may be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

Special Requirements: Candidates must satisfy the administration's training and certification program requirements to operate a forklift within six months of hire.
