Senior Critical Power Technician

Hourly Position with Travel Potential

$100k+ with Sign-on Bonus available for highly qualified candidates



Central Power Systems & Services has been providing first-class customer support since 1954. We specialize in diesel and gaseous power generation systems, critical power infrastructure, and engineered backup power solutions throughout the United States.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Critical Power Technician who enjoys solving complex electrical and mechanical problems while working with the latest power generation technology. This position supports commercial, industrial, healthcare, data center, municipal, and mission-critical customers.

JOB SUMMARY

You'll work on some of the most advanced backup power systems in the industry, from hospitals and manufacturing facilities to large-scale data centers and mission-critical infrastructure. Each day presents new technical challenges and opportunities to expand your skills while working alongside one of the most respected power generation teams in the industry.

The Senior Critical Power Technician will install, commission, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair critical backup power systems including:



  • Diesel and natural gas generator systems
  • Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
  • Generator paralleling switchgear
  • Medium-voltage switchgear
  • Unit substations
  • PLC-controlled systems
  • Protective relays
  • Load bank testing
  • Utility synchronization equipment
  • Power distribution equipment


RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, control, and communication system failures
  • Commission new generator and switchgear installations
  • Troubleshoot PLC-based control systems
  • Perform load bank testing and system reliability verification
  • Repair generator, engine, alternator, ATS, and switchgear failures
  • Communicate with electrical contractors, engineers, manufacturers, and customers
  • Read electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings
  • Accurately complete service report documentation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while representing Central Power professionally
  • Travel throughout the U.S. as required for customer projects

Qualifications

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE




  • Commercial and industrial generator systems
  • CAT, Cummins, Kohler, MTU, Generac, or similar OEM equipment
  • Diesel and natural gas engines
  • Automatic Transfer Switches
  • Generator paralleling controls
  • Switchgear and electrical distribution systems
  • PLC diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • AC/DC electrical systems
  • Medium-voltage systems (up to 13.8kV preferred)
  • Load bank testing
  • Commissioning new installations
  • Data center or mission-critical facilities (preferred)



QUALIFICATIONS




  • 3+ years of commercial generator experience preferred
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics
  • Knowledge of engine control systems and generator controllers
  • Experience with higher voltage generator systems preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Technical School, Military, or Power Generation degree preferred
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to travel overnight as required
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation

WORK CONDITIONS

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This position regularly requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing stairs and ladders. It also often requires pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting 50+ lbs. and working in a variety of weather conditions and noise levels.
