Substation Technician - TX SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking a Substation Technician who will be responsible for constructing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing high-voltage electrical substation equipment and systems to ensure safe and reliable power delivery. RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of transformers, circuit breakers, relays, capacitor banks, regulators, and associated substation equipment. Install, terminate, and troubleshoot power, control, and communication cables. Construct and install grounding systems, steel structures, conduit, and other substation infrastructure. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings. Execute approved switching procedures and assist with energization, commissioning, and startup activities. Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues to identify and correct equipment failures. Maintain accurate maintenance, testing, and inspection records. Follow all OSHA, company, client, and project safety requirements while utilizing required PPE. Respond to emergency outages and support restoration efforts as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Technical, vocational, or Associate's degree in Electrical Technology or related field preferred. Minimum two years of electrical, utility, substation, power delivery, or related experience; apprenticeship completion preferred. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and construction drawings. Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems, substations, and safe work practices. Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred or ability to obtain. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work at heights, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions. Strong commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and customer service. Ability and willingness to travel and work on project assignments as needed.
