Fresh Produce Program | Durham, NC About the Fresh Produce Program: The Fresh Produce Program (FPP) is a Duke staff- and student-run organization whose mission is to strengthen food security and address nutrition-related health disparities in Durham through produce prescription and food access programs. Our direct-to-door delivery model provides over 600 households experiencing food security with biweekly deliveries of free, fresh, and locally-sourced produce and eggs on Saturday "Distribution Days," which are complemented by a weekly first-come, first-serve walk-up table for members of the community. Our goal is to help facilitate partnerships between healthcare systems, community organizations, and local food producers and retailers to improve health through nutrition. Position Summary FPP seeks a reliable, organized, and community-minded Distribution Day Manager to support our weekly operations of the Fresh Produce Program. This role focuses on coordinating the logistics of produce procurement and distribution, managing relationships with partner organizations, and ensuring that weekly deliveries run smoothly. The Distribution Day Manager will play a key role in maintaining the program's weekly distribution workflow-from ordering produce and preparing delivery routes to managing distribution days and coordinating with community partners. This is a part-time position (approximately 15 hours per week) with standing time commitments on Friday and Saturday mornings. Compensation: $25/hour Key Responsibilities * Produce Procurement and Vendor Coordination (approx. 3 hours/week) o Order produce early in the week from program vendors and partners (~1hr) o Pick up produce from the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina on Fridays at 8:00 AM (~1.5 hr) o Receive and coordinate weekly Friday deliveries from community partner Farmer Foodshare (~1.5 hr) * Distribution Day Operations (approx. 4 hours/week) o Manage and oversee Saturday morning produce distribution logistics o Coordinate volunteers and ensure produce bags are prepared and distributed efficiently o Troubleshoot operational challenges and maintain organized workflow during distribution * Delivery Logistics (approx. 1 hour/week) o Prepare weekly delivery routes and participant lists * Conduct delivery driving as needed (approx. 4 hours/week) * Partner Coordination (approx. 2 hours/week) o Maintain communication with community partners (e.g., MAAME, Molina Healthcare, and other collaborators) o Coordinate scheduling, participation, and collaboration opportunities * Community Engagement (approx. 1 hour/week) o Participate in or support community dinners, gardening activities, and related events Program Development * Participate in periodic program growth and strategy meetings (approx. 1 hour/week) Qualifications Required: o Highly organized and able to manage multiple logistical tasks o Comfortable working independently and problem-solving in real time o Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple partners o Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license o Ability to lift 25-30 pounds and work in a physically active environment o Comfort working with community members from diverse backgrounds Preferred: o Experience with food access programs, food systems work, or community health initiatives o Prior experience coordinating events, logistics, or distribution operations o Interest in food security, public health, or community-based programs Why This Role Matters The Fresh Produce Program provides thousands of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to hundreds households experiencing food insecurity each year. The Distribution Day Manager plays a critical role in ensuring that needed food relief reaches participants reliably and that our work remains rooted in the needs of our community. Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $45,661.00 to USD $73,140.00.
