We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.

Job Summary

This position is 40hr, 3-13hr shifts, D/N rotation, weekends/holiday rotation

Ellison 14 is a 10-bed, multispecialty intensive care unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, and we are expanding our team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). We are seeking motivated Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants who are passionate about critical care and committed to delivering exceptional care to patients and families.

Why Join Ellison 14?
Ellison 14 is a unique ICU that cares for a diverse population of critically ill adult patients, including:
*Complex surgical patients
*Burn and trauma patients
*Acutely ill medical ICU patients
*Postoperative and high-acuity admissions

While Ellison 14 serves as the designated Burn ICU at MGH, burn patients currently represent less than 10% of the unit census. This creates an exceptional opportunity to develop expertise across a broad range of medical and surgical critical care conditions.

Our ICU operates under a closed-unit model, allowing APPs to play a central role in patient management while working alongside a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes:
*Critical care attending physicians available on-site 24/7
*Critical care fellows
*Surgical services
*Specialty consultants
*Experienced nursing staff and allied health professionals

What Makes This Role Unique?
APPs are the primary frontline ICU providers and are actively involved in:
*Comprehensive patient assessment and management
*Critical care decision-making
*Advanced monitoring and therapeutics
*Procedures and bedside interventions
*Care coordination across disciplines
*Patient and family education
*Transition planning and discharge coordination

We value collaborative practice, procedural excellence, continuous learning, and professional growth.

Exceptional Orientation and Support
We recognize that critical care backgrounds vary. Every new APP participates in a structured onboarding and orientation program tailored to individual experience and clinical background.
Additionally, we encourage prospective candidates to spend time shadowing our team before joining us. Candidates may arrange a half-day or full-day observational experience to meet the team, experience the ICU environment, and gain firsthand insight into our culture and workflow.

Schedule
Full-time APPs work:
*Three 13-hour shifts per week
*One hour of dedicated education weekly
*Day Shift: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM
*Night Shift: 6:00 PM - 7:00 AM
A fair and equitable rotation of:
*Days
*Nights
*Weekends
*Holidays
is shared across all providers.

Key Responsibilities
The APP will:
*Provide direct critical care management for ICU patients
*Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and ongoing assessments
*Develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care
*Order and interpret diagnostic studies
*Prescribe medications and treatments within scope of practice
*Perform critical care procedures and interventions
*Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams
*Educate patients, families, and staff
*Participate in quality improvement, research, and professional development initiatives
*Support evidence-based practice and patient safety efforts

Qualifications
Required
Nurse Practitioners
*Graduate of an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
*Current Massachusetts NP licensure and certification
Physician Assistants
*Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
*Current Massachusetts PA licensure and NCCPA certification

Preferred Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates who have either:
*Two or more years of full-time critical care RN experience plus graduation from an Acute Care NP program; or
*One or more years of full-time ICU APP experience
Additional critical care, surgical ICU, trauma, burn, or medical ICU experience is highly valued.

Join Our Team
If you are seeking a collaborative, academically rigorous critical care environment where APPs are valued as essential members of the ICU team, we encourage you to apply and explore what makes Ellison 14 such a rewarding place to practice.
