Max Staller is a member of the Center for Computational Biology (CCB) and a Chan Zuckerberg BioHub - San Francisco Investigator. The lab takes a genomics approach to biochemistry to study transcription factor function. Our work combines experiments, theory, computational modeling, simulations, machine learning, and evolutionary comparison. We work on yeast, human, and plant transcription factors. We are embarking on a new collaborative project to investigate how folded protein domains cause transcription factors to form filaments. This project is funded by the HSFP. This position will investigate how transcription factor filament formation contributes to cooperative DNA binding, cooperative transcriptional activation, cooperative transcriptional repression, and other potential gene regulation. The work will have a focus on molecular biology techniques including DNA isolation, PCR, Illumina sequencing library preparation, yeast cell culture, and computational analysis of the resulting data. The position will involve a mixture of experimental and computational work. Opportunities for experimental training, computational training, and career development will be available.
