Overview

To be part of our organization, every employee should understand and share in the YNHHS Vision, support our Mission, and live our Values. These values - integrity, patient-centered, respect, accountability, and compassion - must guide what we do, as individuals and professionals, every day.

The Neuro Telemetry Technician is a bachelor's-prepared neurophysiology professional who provides continuous and retrospective surveillance and structured annotation of neurophysiologic data in support of clinical operations, quality initiatives, education, and approved research activities. Working under the direction of credentialed neurophysiology personnel and designated clinical or research leadership, the Neuro Telemetry Technician identifies and documents predefined clinical, behavioral, technical, environmental, and potential neurophysiologic events using standardized annotation and escalation protocols.
The position requires foundational EEG knowledge and prior EEG experience. The Neuro Telemetry Technician understands electrode placement, basic montages, recording integrity, common artifacts, and foundational waveform and pattern-recognition concepts. Following documented competency validation, the Neuro Telemetry Technician may perform defined technical procedures such as patient preparation, routine electrode application, equipment setup, impedance and data-quality checks, troubleshooting, and patient disconnects.
This is a specialized pre-registry position and is distinct from the Neurophysiology Technologist I trainee role. It requires a bachelor's degree and prior EEG experience so that the employee can contribute to neurotelemetry and protocol-directed research activities upon completion of role-specific orientation. The position does not independently interpret EEG findings or render diagnostic conclusions.

EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran
Responsibilities

  • 1. Provides continuous surveillance of assigned neurophysiologic recordings and associated video, audio, and physiologic data in accordance with established coverage, communication, and escalation protocols.
  • 2. Enters accurate, time-synchronized annotations of predefined events, including patient-reported symptoms, observable behaviors, clinical interventions, medication-related events when visible or communicated, testing procedures, environmental events, technical changes, and potential neurophysiologic changes requiring review.
  • 3. Promptly escalates suspected clinical events, concerning or evolving patterns, patient-safety concerns, technical failures, and deterioration in recording quality to the appropriate technologist, nurse, neuroanalyst, investigator, or provider.
  • 4. Conducts retrospective review and protocol-directed annotation of neurophysiologic recordings for approved research, quality-improvement, education, and operational initiatives.
  • 5. Applies standardized annotation conventions, event definitions, data dictionaries, and protocol-specific criteria consistently and supports inter-rater reliability review, data validation, quality audits, and reconciliation of discrepant annotations.
  • 6. Performs defined technical procedures, including patient preparation, routine electrode application, equipment setup, impedance assessment, recording-quality checks, basic troubleshooting, and patient disconnects, only after completion of required training and documented competency validation.
  • 7. Support neurophysiology research including EEG and eye-tracking protocols.
  • 8. Uses foundational knowledge of EEG montages, waveform characteristics, artifacts, and basic pattern-recognition principles to support accurate surveillance, annotation, recording integrity, and timely escalation.
  • 9. Supports approved clinical research protocols through accurate documentation, protocol adherence, completion of screening or annotation logs, data-quality checks, and protection of participant privacy and research confidentiality.
  • 10. Maintains complete, accurate, and timely operational and research documentation in approved clinical, departmental, and research systems.
  • 11. Collaborates with neurophysiology technologists, neurophysiologists/neuroanalysts, nurses, physicians, investigators, research personnel, information technology teams, and other operational partners to support reliable clinical and research workflows.
  • 12. Participates in onboarding, continuing education, competency assessment, quality review, research training, and professional development and maintains satisfactory progress toward the ABRET EEG board certification (REEGT).
  • 13. Maintains equipment, supplies, and work areas in accordance with infection-prevention, electrical-safety, departmental, manufacturer, and regulatory standards.
  • 14. Performs other duties consistent with the employee's education, training, demonstrated competencies, and the defined scope of the position.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in neuroscience, biology, physiology, psychology, cognitive science, biomedical sciences, health sciences, or another related scientific or clinical discipline.
Preferred Education:
- Formal coursework in neuroscience, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, electrophysiology, research methods, statistics, or data science.
- Completion of, or enrollment in, a recognized neurodiagnostic technology/clinical neurophysiology education program.

EXPERIENCE

Required Experience: A minimum of six months of EEG experience in a clinical, educational, research, or closely related neurophysiology environment.
- Demonstrated exposure to EEG acquisition or review systems, electrode placement, basic montages, waveform display, common artifacts, recording-quality assessment, and event documentation.
Preferred Experience:
- Twelve months or more of EEG, epilepsy monitoring, neurotelemetry, continuous EEG, or neurophysiologic data-review experience.
- Experience in an epilepsy monitoring unit, inpatient neurodiagnostic service, continuous monitoring program, or clinical research environment.
