Development Writer - Donor Engagement

Description

The Development Writer is a key member of our fundraising team, focused on writing inspiring communications to inform and inspire prospective donors to give to Swedish to support our strategic priorities. Reporting to the Communications Director, you will collaborate closely with our fundraising and stewardship teams to write a variety of fundraising communications that convey how gifts support our mission to improve the health and well-being of each person we serve.

Your responsibilities include thorough research, writing, editing, and producing fundraising communications with a commitment to timeliness, effectiveness, and professionalism. Effective collaboration and communication with Swedish Foundation staff, physicians, and subject matter experts are essential to deliver clear, concise, and inspiring messages that uphold the highest standards of integrity and accuracy.

Essential Functions:



  • Collaborate with the fundraising, stewardship teams, and subject matter experts to produce a range of donor-focused materials, such as feature stories, e-newsletter articles, cases for support, individual funding proposals, program overviews, messaging frameworks, web content, and social media posts.
  • Manage content and a project timeline calendar, plan and schedule social media posts, and other communications for consistent and strategic engagement.
  • Coordinate end-to-end project workflows, including research, content gathering, interviews, writing, editing, proofreading, and stakeholder reviews - maintaining a detailed timeline for each project.
  • Maintain and continually improve a searchable content library, fact library, content templates, style guidelines, and an archival storage system.
  • Act as a content resource and maintain knowledge of our programs and projects to support colleagues effectively.
  • Work with external vendors, such as videographers and photographers, to produce high-quality communication materials that amplify stories across internal and external channels
  • Provide expertise on additional communications as needed, including messaging, program overviews, direct mail, email appeals, and more.
  • Leverage data and impact reports to create compelling, data-informed narratives.
  • Assist with PowerPoint presentations, media recaps, and additional materials as required.


Job Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Ability to gather, analyze, and clearly translate health care initiatives and fundraising priorities into accessible and engaging content for various audiences, maintaining a consistent tone and style.
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment, discretion, and accountability, with a high standard for accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to managing multiple projects, prioritizing efficiently even amid competing deadlines.
  • Proficient storyteller with the ability to write and edit across various formats and channels.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to connect and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of AP Style.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote).
  • Philanthropy experience is beneficial but not required.

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in journalism, public relations, communications or marketing preferred or a similar combination of skills and related experience
  • Three years professional writing experience.
  • Experience conducting interviews, pre- and post-interview research, fact checking, and synthesizing a coherent, related and emotive story around a common theme or message.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working in nonprofit fundraising communications in a hospital, academia, medical or research setting.
