Job Description

This is a professional, Information Technologies (IT) position that is responsible for administering, monitoring, and modifying software or applications, related tools and interfaces. Software or applications are generally designed to meet specific business needs - in both the physical and virtual learning environment, as well as the Cloud. Provide technical support to internal and/or external constituents. Stay current with emerging trends.

Individual employed is responsible for managing information technology for students and instructors of UMSL's professional skills programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide support for instructors and students in the virtual learning environment, including remote synchronous learning (via video technology) and asynchronous learning in the Cloud.
  • For synchronous (live) courses, set up and maintain computing environments for student use, including setting student IP addresses, setting daily gateway passwords, uploading student files to OneDrive, and creating links to class student data files through SharePoint. Provide desktop support as needed for those courses held in-person.
  • Ensure students have access to the learning management system and needed course materials.
  • Build, maintain, and deploy computing environments with a variety of software needed for teaching and learning.
  • Maintain current desktop computers and server; create and implement plans for greater performance, stability, security, and cost-effectiveness through migration to the cloud, appropriate on-premise upgrades, and on-going software upgrades.
  • Provide support for issuing digital badges and credentials.
  • Provide backup solutions in case of a system failure.
  • Maintain departmental subscriptions to educational tools and Microsoft Azure cloud tools.
  • Maintain internal team intranet (in SharePoint Online).

Minimum Qualifications

In appraising the relative qualifications of candidates for all levels, consideration will be given to the extent and type of experience with various information technology functions and to the extent and type of pertinent education and formal training.

  • An associate degree or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience and 2+ years work experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
  • Experience with software applications, Windows operating systems, and hardware.
  • Evening, weekend and call-in work may be required to meet deadlines and correct system failures.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including working with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Familiarity with systems analysis procedures and techniques.
  • Experience working with IT within an educational environment.
  • Curiosity and willingness to adapt to changes and innovations in IT.\
  • Experience in Cloud, virtual desktops, or Software as a Service (SaaS).
  • Experience with PowerShell, Power Automate, or similar, scripting for computer management activities.
  • Experience with Microsoft InTune.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $51,875 - $66,810 Annual
