Position Highlights:

  • SIGN ON BONUS: $5000.00 paid in (2) increments after 3 and 12 months (all other Bonus Parameters apply)
  • Position: Cytotechnologist
  • Hourly Pay Range: $35.16 - $54.50. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
  • Elmhurst Hospital 155 E. Brush Hill Elmhurst, IL.
  • Full Time 1.0 FTE
  • Hours: 7:30am- 4pm Monday-Friday

A Brief Overview:

The Cytotechnologist plays a critical role in the early detection and diagnosis of diseases, particularly cancer, by examining cellular samples for abnormalities. In this role, you will utilize your expertise in cytology to assess specimens, collaborate with pathologists, and contribute to the accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients.

What you will do:

  • Models customer service in all aspects of the job, instructing others by example. Acts as a mentor to employees while actively seeking to improve relationships. Intercedes on behalf of any customer to ensure a positive outcome. Ensures all employees are meeting Customer Service standards. Regularly reviews Customer Service goals with employees on an individual basis. Resolves all patient complaints pertaining to subordinate area. Works with management of other departments when patient complaints extend into other areas. Develops new ways to improve customer service and gets subordinate staff actively involved in related activities. Continuously finds new ways to improve processes.
  • Provides assistance to physicians and is primary resource for Cytology technical and operational matters.
  • Demonstrates knowledge/judgment concerning cytology procedures and ability to establish priorities and organize effectively.
  • Accessions specimens submitted for cytological evaluation. Processes and sets up all cytology and FNA specimens according to procedure. Prepares all Non-Gyn fluids prepare slides, and stains them. Performs an immediate stain on some FNA specimens.
  • Performs an immediate assessment of endoscopic/endobronchial ultrasound needle aspirations.
  • Screens Cytology specimens, reviews specimen preparation quality, and prepares Cytology reports within an appropriate time limit per specimen type.
  • Evaluates results/correlates results with histological report and/or reviews with Pathologist.
  • Demonstrates accuracy in screening cytological specimens.

What you will need:

  • Successful completion of a 12 month accredited Cytotechnologist program
  • Current Cytotechnologist Certification/Licensure through ASCP or other recognized licensing agency
  • Bachelor's Degree
