Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Special Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Special Services programs ensuring that high quality educational instruction and support is provided to ENMU-Roswell's students with disabilities. The director will supervise employees within the department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, budget, and evaluation of this department. This position will report to the Dean of the School of Technical Education.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership for the vocational training program for students seeking modified vocational certificates;
  • Market and recruit for the Special Services programs;
  • Develop and update Special Services curriculum;
  • Arrange for clinical resources and student support services;
  • Coordinate, track, and report on student placement;
  • Develop and maintain an active program advisory committee;
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Section 504;
  • Supervise all full-time and adjunct faculty and staff in the Special Services Program;
  • Manage the Special Services budget;
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with appropriate state and federal regulatory agencies;
  • Maintain confidential records and data for Special Services students;
  • Serve on University committees as elected or appointed;
  • Manage department hiring, training, and evaluation of employees;
  • Performs other duties as assigned;

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Vocational Education and Training, or a related field and five years of related experience working with students with disabilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work independently.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
