Position Summary

Student
Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a comprehensive health service available to all
currently enrolled UNM students. SHAC is located North of Johnson Center and
across from the Student Union Building. It is open Monday through Friday and is
closed on all weekends and UNM holidays. Services include medical appointments
(scheduled and same day), counseling and psychiatry services, sexual and
reproductive health, international travel health, allergy and immunization
management and compliance services, sports medicine physical therapy,
acupuncture, massage therapy, lab, pharmacy and x-ray as well as health
education, prevention, and promotion.

Student
Health and Counseling is recruiting for a .80 FTE Physician who is Board
Certified and has at least 3 years of experience after training. Must be
flexible and available to work as needed. Primary duties are the provision of
medical care to UNM students. Desirable candidate is an MD or DO with experience in primary and acute care delivered to a diverse population with a
particular emphasis on, or interest in, young adult health. Work schedule
may vary within the hours of 8am- 5 pm Monday through Friday.

The schedule for this .80 FTE (32 hours weekly) position is negotiable within the Monday-Friday 8am-5pm hours of operation.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain certification and/or licensure status.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.


Minimum Qualifications

Medical doctor; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty. Certification/Licensure: State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification; Medical Specialty License or Certification; Board certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

General Adult Primary Care (Family or Internal
Medicine) including:

  • Experience
    with urgent care management of acute illness and injuries such as: minor
    laceration repairs, nail removals, and incision and drainage.
  • Diagnosis
    and initial management of uncomplicated fracture and arrangement of
    appropriate follow up care.
  • Management
    of chronic disease such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
  • Providing
    and tracking age-appropriate preventive care.
  • Specialist
    referrals as needed-managing and advocating.
  • Experience
    providing routine sexual and reproductive healthcare including
    contraceptive management.
  • Experience
    advocating for sexual health and prevention in a young adult population.
  • Expertise
    in treating anxiety, depression, and related mental health disorders and
    coordinating care with mental health providers as appropriate.
  • Experience
    with and interest in providing health care to a culturally diverse
    population.
  • Experience
    working successfully as a member of health care delivery team
