Role Description:

Technician I, Equipment Reliability performs primary testing and inspections of all capital equipment at approximately thirty (30) water and wastewater treatment facilities. Routinely engages in all methods and technologies of predictive maintenance, which includes, but are not limited to oil analysis, ultra-sound, vibration analysis, and infrared imaging.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assists in tracking equipment reliability problems and works with other team members performing investigations to determine the measures required for each particular situation, considering the cost limitations for equipment up/down time, repair/replacement costs, weight, size and availability of material/equipment.
  • Collects and tests oil samples to prove current lubricant stability on all water and wastewater treatment capital equipment.
  • Identifies and selects the correct lubricant for all process equipment based on current operating conditions.
  • Transports lubricants following industries best practices to prevent cross contamination.
  • Changes oil, filter and desiccant driers on process equipment.
  • Analyzes oil test results, using the CSI 5200 analyzer or similar instrument, in relation to design or rated specification, modifies or adjusts lubricant to meet correct specifications.
  • Utilizes ultra-sound equipment following industries best practices when greasing bearings to prevent over and under greasing of bearings.
  • Collects route vibration data using the CSI 2020 and 2140 vibration data collector or similar vibration analysis equipment.
  • Takes infrared images using a FLIR E-60 infrared or similar camera to identify various mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Trends and records and evaluates predictive maintenance data and recommends corrective action using various software applications such as the Emerson's Machinery Health.
  • Assists Operations and Maintenance Departments in developing procedures, training, and processes to ensure equipment is operated within its design parameters.
  • Reviews equipment specifications and standards and develops recommendations for reliability improvement.
  • Stays current on new technologies and methods for maintaining equipment to increase reliability.
  • Assists in spare parts review for ensuring equipment maintainability and availability.
  • Practices Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) techniques including developing best practices and identifying root cause failure mode and conducting failure effect analysis.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years of relevant progressive mechanic/electrician/instrumentation experience.
Minimum Education Requirements:
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Required Skills:
Ability to read/interpret electrical schematics, blueprints and mechanical drawings.
Must be computer literate, proficient in the use of Windows, Microsoft Office and the Internet. Utilizes the Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, document, record labor and material cost, and analyze equipment history.
Required Licenses & Certifications:
Must possess and maintain current or obtain within 18 months from date of hire and maintain current, certifications in Machinery Lubrication Technician (MLT1), Vibration Analysis Level l, Machinery Lubrication Analysis (MLAI), and Ultrasound Level l.

Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in both office and field settings to perform evaluations and observe actual in-service conditions of equipment.
Subject to indoor/outdoor environmental conditions that include exposure to extreme cold and/or hot temperatures.
Field conditions may include exposure to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, chemicals, sewage, activated sludge, lubricants, and other maintenance fluids.
