About the Department
The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) embodies excellence in research, teaching, and extension in the economics of agriculture and the economics of natural resources and the environment. Dedicated, student-focused faculty teach diverse courses and nurture industry connections to help students pursue rewarding careers. Researchers engage students in relevant, applied research. Extension specialists and associates conduct research-based education and training activities that benefit local and global communities.
ARE offers undergraduate major and minor programs in agricultural business management and a concentration in biological sciences business management within the agricultural business management program. At the graduate level, the department offers a Master of Science degree and a Master of Economics degree, and a Ph.D. degree in economics. These instructional programs are enriched by faculty members with extension and research activities which contribute to the relevance and thoroughness of the teaching program.
ARE is part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, which conducts outstanding research, teaching, and extension programs and plays a vital role in North Carolina agriculture, food and fiber systems, environmental quality enhancement, and economic development. ARE is housed in Nelson Hall along with the Poole College of Management ( PCOM) on the North Carolina State University ( NCSU) Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Essential Job Duties
The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics ( ARE) at North Carolina State University ( NCSU) invites applications for a t enure-track position as Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics. This position is a tenure track position with responsibilities in research (55%) and extension (45%).

Responsibilities include

  • Establishing and maintaining a successful research program in agricultural economics that produces publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals;
  • Developing an outstanding extension program that discovers and disseminates data-driven information to relevant stakeholders on the economics of agriculture addressing problems and topics relevant to the North Carolina and US agricultural economies;
  • Supervising graduate students;
  • Providing service to the profession, department, college and university.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • PhD degree in agricultural economics, economics, or a closely related field.
  • The ideal candidate should be able to develop an innovative research and extension program in the economics of agriculture and contribute to the North Carolina Food Animal Initiative.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Evidence of excellent quantitative and computing skills.
  • Willingness to pursue collaborative disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated potential to actively pursue scholarship consistent with the land-grant mission, leading to refereed publications in reputable agricultural economics, general economics and other top field journals, and effective extramural funding.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop an extension program in agricultural economics that is impactful and addresses issues important to stakeholders in the State of North Carolina and beyond.
